(Released October 20, 1998) - Drug addiction couldn't stop them, nor could the ascension of alterna-rock and the process of aging. Not only are Aerosmith still together, but they're still recording hit singles. Since their formation in the early '70s, the band has scored a multitude of platinum albums and Top 40 hits. Moreover, Aerosmith remain a flamboyant, energized live band capable of recapturing that magical, sexual endorphin rush of youthful rock & roll abandon. Yup, on a good night, seeing Aerosmith is like experiencing your first time all over again. So it comes as no surprise that this band's double live disc is no mere trip down memory lane. Vocalist Steven Tyler still sounds raw, untamed, and on-key, shrieking as passionately as ever and reaching notes Robert Plant and Ozzy Osbourne would sell their kidneys for. And guitarist Joe Perry's bluesy, blustery rhythms and piercing solos still echo with passion and hunger. The first disc is a bit bogged down with '90s material, but the band performs stellar versions of "Love in an Elevator," "Livin' on the Edge," "Cryin'," and "Janie's Got Gun." It's the second disc that really sizzles, as the Toxic Twins dip into their drug-addled past and unleash monsters such as "Back in the Saddle," "Dream On," and "Sweet Emotion." Track List: Beyond Beautiful Just Push Play Jaded Fly Away From Here Trip Hoppin' Sunshine Under My Skin Luv Lies Outta Your Head Drop Dead Gorgeous Light Inside Avant Garden |
(Released March 6, 2001) - It's difficult to separate Aerosmith from their glorious/inglorious history--one that's seen more revivals than West Side Story. For better or worse, the stalwart Boston quintet carry a load of preconceptions that are impossible to shake. Thus Just Push Play begs the question: If this 12-song set was the product of a bunch of upstarts, would it cause much of a commotion? The answer: Absolutely! Working with coproducers and song collaborators Marti Frederiksen and Mark Hudson, Aerosmith have forged an album that gracefully fuses '70s hard-rock grit with contemporary gloss. The pop-infused likes of the sweeping "Jaded" and the insistent "Sunshine" best demonstrate the formula that Tyler, Perry, and company have settled on for now, while gliding strings surge over Tyler's patented screech and the no-nonsense grind of the four instrumentalists. Mailed-in lyrics and a few self-conscious nods to the times mar Just Push Play, but the pleasures to be had here overwhelm the album's deficiencies. -- Steven Stolder (from Amazon.com) | Buy This CD from Amazon.com |

(Released November 20, 2001) - Aerosmith's reign as America's greatest hard-rock heroes seemed all but over at the end of the '70s, the victim of internal squabbles, drug abuse, and a cocooned, decadent environment. Set against that backdrop, their '80's label switch and resurgence--and an eventual iconic, widespread acceptance even more pervasive than during their "prime"--was initially as gratifying as it was unlikely. This double-disc, 34-track compilation of the Geffen years chronicles a not-so-young band clawing their way back to the top with a hungry frenzy that shamed many upstarts half their age. With all the high points intact (including their groundbreaking rock-rap redux of "Walk this Way" with Run D.M.C., "Rag Doll," "Dude (Looks Like a Lady)," "Love In an Elevator," "Janie's Got a Gun," "The Other Side," Cryin'" et al.), this compilation offers up the expected live extras (a handful of old hits and '90's staples), soundtrack cuts ("Deuces Are Wild" and the Doors' "Love Me Two Times") and sundry rarities (including the non-album cuts "Don't Stop" and "Can't Stop Messin'," B-side "Head First," and Japan-only "Ain't Enough")--though, sadly, no "Theme to Wayne's World." But by its waning tracks, it also documents the encroaching influences of hired-gun tunesmiths like Desmond Child and Glen Ballard, and the band's troubling tendency to hew ever closer to the middle-of-the-road as its fame burgeoned. Younger listeners may well treasure this album as a history of Aerosmith's golden years, B.D.--as in before Diane (Warren). -- Jerry McCulley (from Amazon.com) | Buy This CD from Amazon.com |

(Released July 2, 2002) - Over a remarkable 30 years, Aerosmith has delivered near-perfect hybrids of rock and balladry, converting generations of listeners into devout fanatics. O, Yeah! Ultimate Aerosmith Hits drives chronologically through 30 of their best songs, providing a tour of the construction process. And what a process! Listen to "Mama Kin" and you might not recognize Aerosmith at all--here is a young Tyler, before finding his distinctive gritty wail, fronting a simple blues-bar band. But the phenomenal energy and synchronization that developed between Tyler and Perry starts here, and is followed up by successive wonders. "Dream On" captures plodding despair; "Last Child" bears witness to Tyler's mastery of harmony and shriek; "Back in the Saddle" explodes with swagger. Built from the low-end up, Aerosmith's heavy kick, driving bass lines, steady rhythm guitar, and blaring exclamation-point horns create a perfect foundation. And the dirty, harmonic souls of Steven Tyler and Joe Perry do what they do best--put on an over-the-top, flawless show. -- Laura Etling (from Amazon.com) | Buy This CD from Amazon.com |

Track List: Road Runner Shame, Shame, Shame Eyesight To The Blind Baby, Please Don't Go Never Loved A Girl Back Back Train You Gotta Move The Grind I'm Ready Temperature Stop Messin' Around Jesus Is On The Main Line |
(Released March 30, 2004) - Aerosmith are one of the few arena-sized bands still capable of playing it down-to-earth when the occasion calls. For Honkin' on Bobo, the boys return to their bar band roots (and fire a warning shot at Jack White) with this set of classic blues and soul covers generously peppered with harmonica, horns, and boogie-woogie piano. For years, Aerosmith sprinkled similar ditties on their LPs, but devoting a whole disc to material associated with John Lee Hooker, Mississippi Fred McDowell, et al? That takes chutzpah--and they've got it to spare here. "Shame, Shame, Shame" is a finger-waggin', hip-shakin' romp, while "Baby, Please Don't Go" starts out spooky, then escalates as Steven Tyler builds to a full-throttle holler with Joe Perry's guitar blazing his backside all the way. Tyler even snatches one signature song ("Never Loved A Girl") away from the Queen of Soul...at least for a few minutes. -- Kurt B. Reighley (from Amazon.com) | Buy This CD from Amazon.com |

Track List: Good Evening Las Vegas Beyond Beautiful Same Old Song And Dance No More No More Seasons Of Wither Light Inside Draw The Line I Don't Want To Miss A Thing Big Ten Inch Record Rattlesnake Shake Walk This Way Train Kept A Rollin' |
(Released October 25, 2005) - If one had told an Aerosmith fan in 1975 that three decades hence they'd be shelling out a handful of c-notes to see their heroes rocking a Las Vegas quasi-lounge, they'd have likely chuckled, slapped the headphones back over their greasy locks and cranked up Toys in the Attic for its 897th go 'round. But here they are, American hard rock's greatest survivors, rockin', talkin' 'n walking an artistic tightrope at the Hard Rock Cafe's Joint between expected crotch-rock chestnuts (a blues-sassed "Same Old Song and Dance," a hard-charging "Draw the Line" and obligatory "Walk This Way") and their unlikely latter-day incarnation the MOR ballad-mongers of Diane Warren's "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing." But if gritty takes on "No More No More" and the shadowy "Seasons of Wither" point up just how formulaic the band had become by the time of Just Push Play's "Light Inside," their snotty covers of "Big Ten Inch" and "Rattlesnake Shake," Fleetwood Mac's 60s ode to self-love, argue they're still 15 at heart - even if the focused performances here are obviously the product of grizzled veterans. The DVD program on this Dual Disc edition features live video takes of the album's "No More.." and "Draw the Line," as well as bonus performances of early band staples "Dream On" and "Sweet Emotion." -- Jerry McCulley (from Amazon.com) | Buy This CD from Amazon.com |
