www.driver-coaching.com – A mashup of external and onboard video footage of Rounds 1 & 2 of the Chevrolet V8 Supercar Championship from the Yas Marina circuit in Abu-Dhabi. I was there as driver coach to Raed Raffii (Meezer) and Husam Al-Saleh (Hala), also helping my old friend Abdul-Aziz Al Yaeesh. Onboard footage is included from all 3 drivers. Background music is from the Aerosmith Concert held at the end of the F1 Grand-Prix weekend. Video System used for race onboards is VIDEO4 from Race Technology. The V8s are back there in Feb 2010 supporting GP2 Asia and the Australian V8 Supercar series, check this channel for onboards from those races also. Also, lots more V8 Supercar onboard footage on my channel http

Ok wish them all well……& no doubt I am sure a lot will be learnt both for the teams and drivers at this circuit….cant wait Australian V8’s to kick off for 2010:) Go Rick & Todd Kelly those new JD Holdens look awesome……

@MaxxUK The biggest issue for this race was the newness of the track and the fine sand that blows across the track from time to time. The oils in the tarmac were still evident and as this was the first race there it was very variable. Also the guys went straight into quali not knowing the track.

We have just done another race weekend there and whilst still mega exciting there was much less off-track driving :)

Watch out for the onboards very soon .. one should be up later today.

  4. MaxxUK says:

@shandv – No one would argue with that shandv, these cars really are not in the same league. We will get chance to compare both in 2 weeks when the Aussie V8s and the ME V*s race at the Yas Marina circuit.

The big problem with the ME V8s is the lack of camber meaniong that you are only using about 1/3 of the tyre at best during cornering. Spring and Dampers are static and generally too soft and bump and cambers upset the cars much more than the sophisticated setup on the Aussie cars.

  5. MaxxUK says:

    @BETTEMIDLER1945161 – Your absolutely correct.

  6. blobsofcheese says:

Fair enough! They are HSV GTS’s aren’t they? Well, re-badged as a chevrolet I would guess. Strut front end, hokey semi-trailing arm + extra link at the back? I used to have one (a VT, back in 2001) in Australia, and even then agricultural would be one way of putting it!

  7. shandv says:

now I know why they say we have the best V8 Supercar Drivers in Australia……..not trying to spark a debate or an argument but these guys look like they finding it tough to stay on track!!!!!!

  8. BETTEMIDLER1945161 says:

they are holdens not chevrolets thay are made in australia

    @MaxxUK

Seems youtube wont let me post links here, just have a look round, quite a few on there, some are poor quality as I used small low quality upload files for speed

  10. MaxxUK says:

@zuksh We arent allowed data-loggers in the car i’m afraid. I usually use DL1 with the V4, generally a higher end product that Vbox, esp the data logger.

There are lots of vids on my channel with data overlay, here are a few (next comment)

  11. zuksh says:

Have you had a look at the new VideoVBOX and VideoVBOX Lite? Check em out… it’s cool to watch the onboard vids with data overlay (speed, rpm, laptime etc).

  12. MaxxUK says:

@DRAGmaster24 “by the way big fan of your work dudde !! ” – Cheers Dragmaster, glad you like it. I try and post when and what I can as I love to watch onboard footage myself.

  13. MaxxUK says:

@zuksh Glad you like the onboard stuff, I do also. This was done as a bit of a promo but almost all the stuff I post is full race onboard stuff from UK, Europe & Middle-East.

Recent footage is much better now we have VIDEO4 and I can create psuedo HD widescreen stuff.

  14. MaxxUK says:

@zuksh Thanks. They really are tough to drive, lots of power but very little feedback, generally too soft. No drivers aids on these cars either.

The above was the first race of the season and they went straight into quali. Some guys had not driven the cars before, most had only done an hour maximum so it was tough for them.

There are some very succesful drivers in the series, ex European Champions, Highly regarded British F3 drivers, ex WRC driver, Middle-East top drifters and drag racers.

  15. MaxxUK says:

@DRAGmaster24 I’m coaching Raed Raffi (Car 11, SC09) and Husam Al-Saleh (Car 23), also have coached and still helping Abdul-Aziz (Car 2).

Raed is quick but had mechanical issues, he has since won in Bahrain and Saudi. Husam is a relative novice but has improved lots since, a couple of 3rds and a 2nd and quali 2nd today.

Abdul-aziz had a very bad day in this video but have got him driving much better, he Won and placed 2nd in Saudi and 2nd today back at Yas.

I film as part of the coaching

  16. zuksh says:

9:00 Nader’s car caught fire… he’s parking his car on the side (entry to support pit plane)… lol..
I wonder if it’s the cars that handle so bad or if it’s the lack of driving skills… lol… but it’s a lot of fun to watch. Please post more onboard footage. Don’t do a lot of editing… just let it run :-)

    Keep it up!

  17. DRAGmaster24 says:

hey what’s up man i was woundering are you representing any of these drivers?? or maybe couching someone???or u just having fun filming these races??

by the way big fan of your work dudde !!

  18. MaxxUK says:

The cars are not what you would call sophisticated, they have the power but at present they are not able to dial any camber in so the handling is somewhat agricultural to say the least.

Also, Abdulaziz “one-hand” Al-Yaeesh was having a very bad day and not in the mood. Raed, technical the best driver had engine problems in both races so not much footage from him.

There is some great footage from other races on my channel.

  19. MaxxUK says:

LOL @ blobsofcheese :- Yes, it was messy all right, what was not obvious from the in-car was how tricky and variable the circuit was. It was brand new, this was the very first race on it and we had tarmac oil seepage mixed with light sand which would be there one minute and not the next.

  20. blobsofcheese says:

Holy moly… are there any reg’s in this? Or driving skill for that matter? Messiest 9 and a bit minutes i’ve ever seen.

  21. MaxxUK says:

The guys are racing again this weekend, supporting the DP2 Asia Championship.
